Sizing Cheat Sheet

Always size your artwork to the exact physical dimensions you want printed. Here are the industry standards for adult apparel:

Left Chest Logo 3–4 in wide
Sleeve Detail ~3 in wide
Full Front 10–12 in wide
Full Back 11–12 in wide
Youth Sizing Tip: Scale designs down proportionally (e.g., 8–9 inches for full front). Always measure the printable area on the actual garment before ordering!

Placement Guide

Use these general guidelines to ensure your press is perfectly positioned every time.

  • Left Chest: Find the center line of the left shoulder seam. Drop down about 7–9 inches from the seam (aligns roughly with the armpit).
  • Full Front: Start the top edge of your design about 3-4 fingers (3 inches) below the bottom edge of the collar. Ensure it is perfectly centered on the vertical axis.
  • Full Back: Start the top edge of your design about 4 inches below the back collar.
  • Sleeve: Typically placed 1 inch above the bottom hem of the sleeve, centered vertically.

Color Tips

  • Screen vs. Print: Monitors are backlit and display colors in RGB. Physical inks (CMYK) can never perfectly replicate neon or hyper-bright screen colors. Expect a slight, natural shift in vibrancy.
  • High-Quality Artwork: Avoid over-compressed images. Highly compressed JPGs saved as PNGs often have muddy colors and artifacting around the edges.
  • Gradients & Photos: These are completely OK and print beautifully with DTF! Just ensure the source file is high resolution.
  • Contrast is Key: If your colors are very dark and you are pressing onto a dark garment, add an outline or lighten the design to ensure it pops.

Dark Garment Tips

Our DTF process automatically lays down a solid white underbase behind your design, meaning colors stay vivid even on black shirts. However, contrast still matters.

  • Dark-on-Dark: Navy blue text on a black shirt will still be hard to read, even with a white underbase. Lighten your colors.
  • Use Halos/Outlines: If your design has dark edges, apply a thin white or light-colored stroke (halo) around the artwork so it doesn't get lost visually against the dark fabric.

Small Detail Rules

The Phone Test: If your design is hard to read on your phone screen when viewed at its actual physical size, it is too small to print reliably.
  • Avoid Hairline Strokes: Lines thinner than 0.5mm may print, but they do not hold enough adhesive powder. They will likely wash off quickly.
  • No Micro Text: Tiny text becomes illegible and fragile.
  • Keep Details Bold: We highly encourage thickening up your strokes and simplifying extremely intricate details for a garment that lasts years.

Do & Don’t

✓ DO

  • Upload at the exact physical size.
  • Ensure your canvas is set to 300 DPI.
  • Use high-quality transparent PNGs.
  • Keep fine lines and text bold.
  • Test press a sample on an old shirt first.

✕ DON’T

  • Mirror your art (we handle this).
  • Use tiny text or hairline strokes.
  • Upload low-res thumbnails scaled up.
  • Leave unwanted background boxes.
  • Use extreme image compression.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should my left chest logo be?

Standard left chest logos are generally between 3 and 4 inches wide. Measure the graphic against an actual shirt to visualize it before ordering.

What’s a safe size for a full front print?

For standard adult shirts (S–XL), 10 to 12 inches wide is the industry standard. For 2XL+, you may want to scale up slightly, and for youth, scale down to 8 or 9 inches.

Why do my colors look different than my screen?

Phones and monitors display colors using backlit RGB pixels, which are exceptionally bright. DTF printers use CMYK physical ink. A slight loss of "neon" vibrancy is perfectly normal when transitioning from digital to physical.

Do gradients and photos print well?

Yes! Our printers handle complex photo-realism and smooth gradients beautifully. Make sure your original file is high resolution.

How small can text be before it fails?

Anything thinner than 0.5mm is at high risk of flaking off in the wash because the adhesive powder cannot bind properly to a stroke that thin. Bold it up!

Should I add an outline for dark shirts?

If your artwork relies on dark navy, deep red, or black edges and you are pressing onto a dark garment, adding a thin white or contrasting outline ensures your design pops and doesn't get lost.

Do I need to mirror my artwork?

No! Please upload your artwork exactly as you want to read it. Our printing software automatically mirrors the file during production.

Can I scale my file up after ordering?

No. We print files at the exact dimensions they are uploaded. To maintain our same-day shipping speed, we cannot edit, resize, or alter your files after submission.
